So far, a total of 26 horses have entered the Belmont Stakes after having won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Of these, 11 have succeeded in winning the Triple Crown.

On the day of the 2009 Belmont Stakes, you can place your bets at pari-mutuel betting outlets or at self-service machines at the track. Advance wagering is available starting 45 minutes before the racing.

You can choose to bet on an outright race winner, on a first or second place winner, or on a show - that is, a first, second, or third position. Other variations, such as betting on the exact first and second place winners, are also available. The minimum wager for all bets is $1.

Top Trainers & Jockeys to Back

The current three top Belmont Park trainers in terms of money earned are Todd Pletcher - Belmont Stakes winner with Rags To Riches in 2007, Kiaran McLaughlin - who won with Jazil in 2006, and Barclay Tag.

Current top jockeys to back in Belmont Stakes betting include Eibar Coa, Javier Castellano, Kent J. Desormeaux, and Cornelio Velazquez.

Cashing Belmont Stakes Bets

To cash tickets for payouts of $600 or more, you'll be required to provide two forms of identification (such as a social security card and a driver's license or passport).
